Salman answers notice, but refuses to say sorry for the rape remark
June 30, 2016It has been a tough two weeks for the Bollywood superstar Salman Khan. The womenfolk of the country has been fighting an ongoing battle with the superstar over his rape remarks. The National Commission for Women (NCW) had issued a notice regarding the same and Salman Khan did answer the notice but refused to say sorry.
The Maharashtra State Women's Commission (MSWC) on Wednesday issued fresh summons to actor Salman Khan after he failed to appear before it in connection with his remarks comparing a grueling shoot to rape.
He and his lawyer have been directed to explain his infamous remark The actor will be required to file an affidavit in the MSWC. The fresh notice has summoned him on July 7. However, the festival of Eid is likely to occur on July 7, so the MSWC may revise the date.
Meanwhile, earlier on Wednesday, Salman, through his lawyer, reportedly answered a similar notice issued by the National Commission for Women (NCW). He, however, did not apologize for his statement. In response to the MSWC summons, the actor had sent a letter to the panel on Tuesday through his lawyer saying that the case is already being heard by the NCW, and the matter cannot be heard simultaneously at two places.
However, MSWC chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar pointed to flaws in this argument.
“ We have rejected his contention. Double jeopardy applies to the fact that a person cannot be punished twice for the same crime, not that the case cannot be taken up by two different authorities. The NCW and MSWC have concurrent rights. Salman is a resident of Maharashtra, so we certainly have the right to process the matter.“

OUR TAKE
Salman Khan lives upto his reputation of being the bad boy of Bollywood. Controversies have not eluded him ever and he himself does not help the cause. Instead of simply apologizing for the remark made, he chose just to answer the notice. When a mistake could be undone and it is not, the people remember. The next time something like this takes place, the reputation of Salman Khan would surely skydive. The actor should look to end the controversy as soon as possible.
