New Delhi hit and run case : speeding Mercedes kills 32 year old

April 09, 2016

A 32-year-old marketing executive was killed by a speeding Mercedes allegedly driven by a minor at the posh Civil Lines area in north Delhi, police said on Wednesday.

The victim, Sidharth Sharma, was the marketing head of a private enterprise, and also pursuing professional degree from an institute in New Delhi affiliated to Stratford University in US. The person, who was at the wheel of the Mercedes, has been identified, turned out to be the minor son of the car owner, and has been apprehended, a senior police official said.

The juvenile had earlier caused a death due to his carelessness and was involved in other accidents in his locality as well. Also, it was noted that in both the accidents the same car was used. The father was arrested under Section 109 of IPC and Section 304 II a more strict action for arrest. This is said to be the first such case which involves a minor doing such acts. It was also found by the police that the car Mercedes S-200K (DL 2F CM 3000) was used for other crimes as well such as speeding and rash driving three times in the past. Earlier this year two challans and a speeding notice was also sent. The notice sent in June last year remained unattended, this lead to a buzz that claimed the juvenile might have been involved in these acts as well. & quot Apart from accidents, CCTV footage of the area indicate that the possibility of the juvenile being aware that his extremely fast driving in a residential area can cause a death, cannot be ruled out,& quot The neighbors of the family also claim that they have seen the juvenile speeding many a times.“ Not a single step was taken by the father of the accused, Chawri Bazar businessman Manoj Aggarwal, to stop the boy from driving the car. This is an act of criminal omission, thereby abetting the crime of the juvenile. He has thus been arrested.” & quot Apart from accidents, CCTV footage of the area indicate that the possibility of the juvenile being aware that his extremely fast driving in a residential area can cause a death, cannot be ruled out,& quot

OUR TAKE

We are quite amazed at the parents as they should have taken some step regarding the same. They are supposed to be aware of such acts done by their kids. The price of the indulgence of the teenager was paid by the young Sidharth Sharma. The culprit should be brought to book and the final verdict should be a harsh one. But the sad part is that the culprit was a juvenile and the law will treat him as one. If the person is old enough to do adult activities like ride a motorcycle or drive a car, then why treat him like a juvenile and be lenient on him just because of this fact? The nation stands together in support of the young Sidharth.
