Soon you can locate public toilets through a mobile app in Delhi
September 25, 2017The Delhi High Court has directed that the municipal bodies should map out all the public toilets in the city. With the help of an application, Delhiites can now locate a washroom in the city to address the urgent call of nature.
While addressing the response of the civic bodies who find it difficult to locate public toilets in the city, the Delhi High Court has categorically directed the municipal bodies to carry out mapping and geo-tagging of public toilets in order to make them more accessible for public.
Once this direction of Delhi High Court is implemented Delhiites will be able to use their smartphones to locate public toilets as all this information will be digitalized and will be made available online maps or mobile applications.
A bench comprising of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C. Hari Shankar asked the Municipal Corporation to place before it mapping of all the public toilets. Considering the affidavits of trifurcated Municipal corporation of Delhi they were unable to locate public toilets.
The court directed, that all the agencies are expected to explore and examine the possibility as well as the feasibility of mapping of the locations of these public toilets by way of geo-tagging and making the same available by an appropriate application to all mobile users or otherwise on the internet to facilitate accessibility of all information regarding location of public toilets.
To make public toilets more accessible specifically in commercial markets, the bench directed municipal authorities to ensure that there are sufficient public toilets.
All these directions were issued by Delhi High Court while hearing a public interest litigation matter which sought toilet facilities for slum dwellers of Shahbad Dairy area in outer Delhi.
