Society demading I pay the bill that is raised on someone else's name

18-Dec-2023 (In Landlord/Tenant Law)
I bought a property in Mumbai in 2005 in a coop hsg soc from a member of the society and paid Rs. 25000 as transfer fee. But the society did not register me as a member and did not transfer the share certificate in my name for 6 1/2 years (aug 2011) and kept on raising bills in the name of previous owner. My question is am I liable to pay the bills that are raised in someone else's name?

No, you are not liable to pay bills of the person who owned the place before. but it was your and the societies duty to check whether all the dues were cleared by them or not. they cannot force you to pay the bill which you have not used/ consumed.
