Landlord refusing to return security deposit

07-Apr-2023 (In Landlord/Tenant Law)

I had submitted two months rent as security deposit and I am leaving the rented house before 11 months. Landlord says that since I am not completing 11 months he shall not return the security deposit. There is no rental agreement and the Landlord says that this is the custom in Bangalore. What can i do?

Your landlord tenant agreement is governed by your rent agreement. In case of no agreement between you and your landlord, your landlord cannot claim for the security deposit based on some custom. You can legally claim for the security deposit amount.
