Landlord not returning the security deposit

27-Sep-2023 (In Landlord/Tenant Law)
My landlord is giving me multiple excuses and is delaying paying my security deposit. I had given him enough notice and had told him that I will require the security deposit before I vacate the house. I had to move out anyway because I had finalized another place and now when I call / message / email him he just says that they need more time. He has locked the house and lives in the UK so I have no other way but to keep calling / emailing him, to which he responds only when he feels like and doesn't give any satisfactory answers. What should I do?

If receipt acknowledging the returnable deposit is annexed by her in the agreement itself, she is bound to return it, you'll have to send a notice demanding the return of deposit to her and in the worst case you also might have to proceed against her through a Suit for such recovery.

Issue a legal notice, if he doesn’t pay back on receipt of the notice, file a money recovery suit.

You need to weigh your options though. Take a call on the total money including interest that you need to recover. Your litigation cost shouldn’t exceed what you need to get back from the landlord. Hence, first go with a notice.
