Recruitment cancelled after passing examination what can be done

Dear sir I successfully passed in a government examination. But department cancelled the examinition. He said their is a notification mistake. Their is only one post of general category and age relaxation given for st/sc/obc. So exam cancelled but I have not taken any benefit of relaxation. Can I oppose??
In such a case you always have an option to approach the court through a writ petition against the department and you can ask for compensation as well as the job due to which you and other students are suffering. Kindly make sure you have documentary evidence to support your case
