How to get the original certificates from employer

I have worked in a college as a lecturer.In my appointment letter 2 months notice period is given.They have collected all my original certificates at the time of appointment.Due to medical emergency I couldn't serve this notice period.Now the management is asking for two months salary to release the certificates even after submitting the medical certificate.Is there any way to get the certificate without paying this money under medical emergency ?Pls advice me
and i want to know for how many months/years you have served in that college and further more clarifications is needed regarding the reason for absence what was the medical emergency?
