Employment Bond and Cost of Termination

I have signed a employment contract .... the terms as are as follows - i have been sent on secondment to company XYZ India to company XYZ UK - contract basically was a short term employment contract to work in UK - the contract says if i leave the job within 1 year after the completion of secondment i have to pay the cost of travel, training, cost of stay in UK etc. - now 6 months are left for 1 year to complete and i want to leave the job - i am being asked for huge amount as compensation which is 5 lacs-7 lacs query: Is such a contract valid legally

Yes if the company is paying for your travel cost and training cost then you are required to pay the said amount if you leave the company before the tenure of 1 year.
