Eligiblity to get gratuity

HI, the company paid me gratuity, in 4, 2014, as i had left the company in 28 dec 2012,(Joined in Aug 2007, completed 5.6 years) now they are asking me to return the gratuity as i had resigned from the company so i was not eligible for gratuity. i could not find any law who says that i am not eligible. since company is central govt. managed. should i pay back? or what is the rules around it?

Greetings,
On what basis they are asking you to return the said amount. Please ask them a provision for the same. Gratuity is entitled to those employees also who are being terminated from the company in fact you had resigned from the company so you are eligible for the gratuity. In case if the harass you again and again you may approach Assistant Labour Commissioner for the same. Hope your query is resolved.
