Can supervisor terminate the candidate on the basis of lack budget

I was suddenly told by my project supervisor that he does not have budget for my role and I should look for another role. My department supervisor said he does not have any role for me. Can they ask me to leave company?
First thing, all depends upon ur term and conditions in appointment letter with organization. 2ndly this is not only subject matter of supervisor but of the whole management.
