Can I take government job back if convicted under a case?

My query is if someone is in government job and is punished with imprisonment then after getting released can he get his government job back or can he apply for some other govt job?
If you have completed the imprisonment, then you will have to re apply and it is in the discretion of the government to give you a job or not.
