Bond for retaining part of employee salary is this legal

Is bond on the rs. 100/- stamp paper is necessary to retain some part of employees' salary towards possible loss of company assets by employees? Or the clause can be added to the appointment letter itself?
The clause may be added to the letter of appointment itself and there would be no need to include this on a stamped agreement. However, do ensure that the employee signs and accepts the letter of appointment and that such copy is retained by you in original at your office.
