Am i obligated to disclose the surgery and disease that i get operated

28-Oct-2023 (In Labour & Service Law)
If I am taking a leave for 2-3 weeks for surgery & treatment of disease, then I am required to inform my employer about the exact & specific disease I am having and the surgery I am undergoing? Or will a doctor's certificate that "due to certain medical condition a surgery is conducted and 2 weeks bed rest advised will suffice"? Am I compelled to disclose my exact disease/surgery to the employer in light of my Right to Privacy under Indian Constitution? Is such privacy also covered under any other law?

Hi,
Your employer may ask for specific disease if your sick leave exceeds three days. Though, you have few privacy rights which your employer needs to follow. Your employer can not disclose to any one else regarding your illness without your prior consent nor can take any unreasonable adverse step which will affect your employment. For more detailed advice please feel free to contact me.
