Insurance claim amount recovered by the bank for credit loan

i was affected by flood last year, i have got insurance claim. the claim has been awarded but it is been recovered by the bank for the loan
Were you a defaulter of the bank for not paying the loan amount, if yes then the bank can claim the amount from you for not paying the dues of the bank. and if you were not then you may ask the bank to give you clarification regarding the same.
