The punishments to which offenders are liable under the provisions of this Code are
- Death;
- Imprisonment for life;
- Repealed by Act 17 of 1949
- Imprisonment, which is of two descriptions, namely:-
- Rigorous, that is with hard labour;
- Simple;
- Forfeiture of property;
- Fine.
IPC 53 in Simple Words
The punishments under the Indian Penal Code include death, imprisonment (rigorous or simple), forfeiture of property, and fine.
The punishments that can be imposed on offenders are discussed in Section 53 of Chapter III of the IPC. The punishments are: death penalty, life imprisonment, prison, forfeiture of assets and fine.
