You can get your merriage registered either at bride's place or groom's as per your convenience and preferance but registrar's office should not be unreasonably far from your city. Both parties to merriage will need to sign declaration in front of registrar and 2 witnesses.

for court marriage under special marriage Act one of the person seeking to be married shall be of ordinarily resident of the place where marriage is to be solemnised. the application for the marriage shall be made prior month to the registrar and he shall after receiving such application issue notice for inviting objections. if no objection received then marriage will be solemnised on the fixed date. if any objection received then the registrar shall have to decide the objections first. in latter case marriage may get delayed.

my opinion would be court marriage should not be done in your city, if the court marriage is due to family issues or without taking consent of family because marriage registrar will send notice to the family before solemnisation of marriage. second part is if marriage is done with the consent of family then court marriage can be done anywhere irrespective of the city of bride and groom.
