When can an objection be raised against Marriage registration

20-Jul-2023 (In Family Law)
I am a 23 y.o Hindu female based out of Chennai. My boyfriend is a 26 y.o.Christian male from Kerala. We want to get married, but my parents are against it. Can my parents lodge a case against him to get me back even after the 30 day objection period after the marriage registration date is over? One point to note is that he already has a live criminal case against his name. But that will be withdrawn in few months. Will this case be a factor in this situation? Kindly do let me know even the slightest possibility or loophole my dad's lawyer can use against us.

There is a new law passed by TN State government that register marriage needs with the consent of mother or father of boy and girl at the time of registration. Criminal case of the boy side will not affect you anymore.

Madam, under Indian law, there is no impediment for any citizen above 18 years to marry any one. even parents or law enforcing agencies can't restrict any one from entering into marriage. Further, now a days, living together concept is also prevailing. Pending criminal case is also not bar for marriage. no one can do anything without your consent. your father's lawyer can do against you when you are accepting the same. But it is for you to think twice before get in to marriage. As far as legal issues are concerned, no one can do against you or your boy friend except with your consent. with regard to objection period, it is only just a notice to agitate for lack of requirements like age, bigamy etc by people concerned and not for the parents to dispute the marriage stating that the same was proposed without their consent. All the best.

the criminal case against your boy friend has nothing to do with the marriage.

your parents cannot prevent you from getting married. If there is any valid objection, the registrar will ask for clarification from you.
