What is the punishment for bigamy.

I want suggestions... My friend XYZ is married. Nw 6 mnth later.,her husband remarried to someone mistakelly.....nw he is feeling guilty n want to solve out......but second wife is not ready for divorce n blackmailing the first wife n husband........so can u tell me 1) which marriage is legal 2)my friend pooja do not hav issue with his husband 3) wht is the rights of all three persons in eye of laws, whts they can do
The second marriage is null and void as according to Hindu law one can't not marry until first wife is alive , divorced or hve entered in judicial separation .
3) As second marriage is null and void so until second wife is not in a position to prove in court she got into marriage by providing wrong information by the man she doesn't hve claim . If she was mislead and manipulated to enter into marriage then she can claim remedies under law

During subsistence of the first Marriage if husband do another marriage he who shall be punished, which may extent to 7 years and with fine. Since he is adult cannot say that he has married mistakenly. Your friend has right to file Divorce Petition having ground of Bigamy. The second wife can file complaint of cheating and rape.

Only first marriage is valid in eyes of law. Without divorce from first wife second marriage is illegal and for that punishment is given if the offence is proved before the court oflaw beyond reasonable doubts.
