What action can be taken if son beats mother for money

Hello Sir, My Mother in law is getting beaten everyday almost by his own son as he demands for money. Son is 28 year old but doing nothing. If they complain to police, they will keep him in jail for couple of days only. they are afraid if they do as i said so, he will become for violent. What indian law came prevent parents for this. Any help will be highly appreciated.
Parenys have right to get maintenance from their children as per the senior citizen protection act passed by the state legislature of rajasthan. Mother can file complain to the police and register fir aganst son. If police do not register fir they have option to file complaint before magustrate.
