Stopped the marriage before 21 days due to Dowry

I am Margaret, the Grooms family has arranged the marriage on may 12, with out demanding any jewels / expenses ,and the marriage halls and all preparations are done based the certificate provided from the Church, Prior 21 days for the marriage they requested for the Jewels and cash and complete marriage expenses should be beared from our end, and if not then the marriage will not be done and now they stopped the marriage , How this can be handled , because its a dignity issue of our family
If you have any documentary evidence of their readiness to marriage and you incurred loss by their withdrawal, you could approach the civil court and claim damages. Further, since they asked for dowry you could also file a criminal complaint agianst them under dowry prohibition act in your local police station.

You can lodge a complaint before the all women's police station near to your house or give a complaint to the commissioner of police, the complaint should be well drafted to meet out the demands of dowry harassment and cheating. Or else you have to sit and talk with boys family and make a compromise. My opinion would be to approach the police and put an end to this dowry harassment and include the persons involved in it completely
