Sister in law humiliating my wife in public what can I do

My cousin brother's wife humiliate my wife with full scene and purposefully in a public place and later in our common house too. She told that my wife called and ask for money from her husband, which is not correct.She also claimed that her husband gives money to run our family, which is also not correct. She also told that I am using my wife and my only son to earn money from her. This one also not correct.All allegations are false and baseless. Now I want to make a complain to Police against her. Can I do the same and if I can which IPC is the most suitable for the same.
You can file a defamation case in Court under section 499 IPC in this regard, but I must warn you that defamation is hard to prove, and most defamation cases don't succeed. Police cannot be involved as it is a non-cognizable offence, which police do not have the power to investigate.
