Legal rights of a widow

26-Apr-2023 (In Family Law)

Hi..my sister is from chennai married from past 20yrs..she lost her husband 6yrs back and now her in laws are pestering her to leave the house and go to her mother's house and they are also not ready to provide any financial security for their grand children. So I want to know whether there's a law which says that a widow does have a right to her share of property from her in laws ??

A widow has complete right over the self acquired property of her husband.  A daughter-in-law has no right in 'self-acquired' property of her in laws. But if the father-in-law has inherited the property from ancestors then there will also be a share of daughter-in-law.
