how to save myself from Forced arrange marriage by family
04-Sep-2023 (In Family Law)
Am a gujrati girl age 25. My family fixed my engagement with a guy from my community last year. This year i met a boy and we are in love. I told my family i dont want to marry the guy they chose for me but they are forcing me into it with emotional blackmailing and i've gone throu mental torture. Am thinking about reporting this to police but unsure of how they will be able to help me break through this arrange marriage. I do not wish to marry now. I want to start a job and make my career as my family has restricted me from working also. Please tell me how i can get legal help.
As you have attained the age of majority you have full right to marry someone you want to and your parents cannot force you to marry someone you don't want to. What you can do against this is file a complaint against your parents for forceful marriage. Your parents also cannot stop you from working. You can also mention this in the complaint and the police will take necessary action.
