Logically the compensation amount should be divided equally amongst all the four sons but as the money belongs to your father and he can use it the way he wants to in his life time. Therefore he can transfer it to any child that he wants to or divide the same equally.

If self made property of your father is acquired by the government and compensation is paid then father is free to divide or not to divide the money as per his own wish. He has exclusive rights over the money received by the government. If the property is ancestral property then everybody will get the amount proportionate to his or her share as per laws of inheritance.

ye is baat penirbhar karta hi ko property pitaji ki khud ki banayi hui property thi, ya wo baap dada ki property thi jo ki pitaji ko batwaare me mili thi. Agar wo batwaare me mili hui property thi topitaji ko sarkar se prapt kiya hua muawja (compensation) sabhi ladko mein baaantna padega aur wo bhi barabar. I hope you'll find what you are looking for in my response.
