religious wedding ceremony Is not required under special marriage, however you can always solemnise the marriage according to christian traditions for your own satisfaction. Its up to you whatever you decide.

Under Special Marriage Act marriage may be solemenised in 2 ways. One as per the custom of either spouse and then the marriage the marriage has to be registered with the registrar of marriage. The second way is solemisation of marriage before the registrar of marriage.
