A man promised to marry now denying what can I do
15-Jun-2023 (In Family Law)
I have been into a 6 year old relationship with a man. who presently work with a government firm in Mumbai. And i reside in Delhi. I am already divorced as my first marriage did not work. I came in vivek's contact when my divorce case was going on in 2010. he promised to support me and marry me after my divorce case settles. Since 2010 we have been into long distance relationship. But we used to visit each other 3-4 times in year. Our relationship was completely like husband wife. Now in 2016 he is planning to marry an another girl. and he told me about the same after his engagement.
In this matter several criminal case can be filled. If he had promised to marry you and had been in a relationship with you you may approach the appropriate court of law for the remedy. A case of rape can also be registered in lieu of promise to marry.
Your relationship appears to be a live in relation during which the person has established sexual relations with you by keeping you under the impression that he will marry you once your divorce has been finalised but now he is backing out and marrying another girl . In such a situation, not only do you have all the rights available to a live in partner under the domestic violence act ( like right of residence . Maintenance . Compensation etc. ) but you can also file a criminal complaint against the person for commission of criminal offences under the IPC like rape and cheating .
