30-Apr-2023 (In Documentation Law)

Hi, I wanted to apply for a pan card. But they don't accept initials in last name. But all my supporting document has only initials in last name. What shall I do?

This is a perennial problem faced by those in Kerala who have discarded using this surnames since the last two generations. In most cases this has been a matter of principle as the surnames usually forms the basis for identifying the cast.

The practical solution is to expand the initial and find a quick solution.

Legally, there is no necessity that a person's name should be in particular pattern or structure. There is no Naming Act. As such, legal remedies could be followed up, if you have the sagacity.

Wishing you best of luck.
