A simple sale agreement from Notary to be made of the transaction between buyer and seller with payment details (in form of cheque, draft to be mentioned), vehicle condition, status and handing over of RC, Insurance to seller with there photocopies
- The Sale agreement defines payment clause, owner status and responsibilty acknowledgement of car from date of handing over keys
- Once the payment is received, You have to sign in 2 copies of Form 29, Form 30 indicating intimation to RTO for your consent of transfer to name of buyer
- If the vehicle is hypo to any financial institution then Form 35 also need to be signed along with a NOC from Bank (as per payment clause structure in sale agreement)
- The original RC and Insurance along with RTO document, latest PUC copy and original keys to be handed over to seller

Its safe to keep a photocopy of :-
a) Copy of Sale agreement
b) Buyer ID and address proof
c) Cheque or DD Copy

Practically, just go to the local regional transport authority and they will do it for you. There is documentation required to be done, but there are people who sit outside the RTO who will do it for. The buyer and seller will both need to be present.
