Legal procedure for name change

What is the legal procedure for changing my name ? MY name's format is S.RANGARAJAN and i have to expand the S part because PAN card doesn't allow the initials and i have to make one. Also is it necessary tochange the names in all my old documents if my name is changed ?
The procedure for name change is as follows:
1. Notice of name change is to be published in a local and a national newspaper.
2. A publication in gazette is to be made regarding the name change.
3. Along with an affidavit has to be made with regard to the name change.
With regard to the consequences, there are no such consequences that we are already aware of or mentioned there in law.

If there is only pan issue then u may apply for the correction of pan name but u want to change your name as per astrology Or some other reason so you have to make three affidavit in favour of National level newspaper editor and publis the notification 2national news paper in english and hindi and one for local language after that give application to the city magistrate as information along with newspaper cutting then he will pass an order in favour of u
