I changed my name legally but want to retain my old name

24-Sep-2023 (In Documentation Law)
I have changed my name by publishing in Gazette of India in May 2014. I updated my name in aadhar card in July 2016 and pan card in September 2016. But now I want to retain my old name. As far as I know and I enquired, I have to again change my name by publishing in Gazette of India to change it in pan card and aadhar card and the process will take approximately three months. I haven't inform my new name in my office till now. I have changed it only in pan card and aadhar card. I haven't changed in bank also. If I again start the procedure of changing my name and do not inform in my office, can I face any legal consequences from my office as I am a tax payer and my new name is updated in income tax department database. It is like carrying dual identity. At any stage they may know this. What should I do now to change my old name back. Please suggest.

You have got your name changed from what to what?
I am assuming that it is from Ram to Shyam and it is not from Ram Kumar to Ram Kumar Sharma.
In order to have your old name once again, of course, the same process would have to be followed by you i.e Gazette publication.
Income tax and Aadhaar card authority would not accept your request to reverse the records until and unless you have a Gazette to that effect.
And, since on PAN Card, you have already got your new name recorded, you ought to have it updated in Bank records as well.
As regards Intimation to office, you must inform and keep them apprised as at the time of filing ITR by you, your Form - 16 pan card details will not match.
With respect to Legal action, I foresee none; they shall be entitled to take legal action only when if there is a fraud played upon them by you and have caused wrongful losses to them.
However, your employer may take disciplinary action on account of concealment of material information.
Hope, the above answers all your queries.
Regards
