What is the criterion for alimony

This is a 2nd divorce. The girl has stayed only intermittently with the guy for a very short span of 2-3 month ( that too intermittently). She is an acute patient of depression and gets abusive at time. Can the girls family ask for alimony? If so what are the criterion under which this can be ruled off ( she doesn't work).
Yes definitely the girl can demand for maintenance and alimony, husband needs to defend himself and prove that girl cannot demand maintenance and or any kind of alimony by citing some Landmark judgments of the Hon'ble Supreme Court
