Physical and mental harassment by in laws for dowry

My marriage takes place last year in December 2014, and since after 2 months, my husband and my in law are harassing me both mentally and physically for dowry. My husband don't listen to me, he listens to his family members and whatever they say he do that. If i say some of my personal talks to him, he shares that with his whole family and abuse me in front of all. I am living like a dead in that house. They ask dowry from my parents. I just want to live away from my inlaws with my husband but they don't allow me. Once he will leave his parents and siblings, i know my marriage will work.

If you want to take legal course against such dowry harassment by your inlaws then you have to file a police complaint in the local police station and thereafter the police in most of the cases will invite your husband and in-laws for counselling. If they dont mend their way even thereafter then you can file a case under the Prohibition of Dowry Act and they are punishable under the Indian Penal Laws. But you will have to decide what you want i.e whether you will be able to live under such condition otherwise if you look for mediation through some common friends and family members you try to resolve the problem.

If you want to live with your husband. Court can not do anything in such an issue. You have to convince your husband to live separate. If he refuses and harasses you for dowry or tortures you mentally then only you can move a compliant or lodge an FIR. You can also move a complaint in this situation as well but if you do so, the relationship between you and your husband will be suffered. He may seek a divorce. Think properly before doing anything.
