In laws blackmailing to file criminal case as i had relation with girl

Hindu, married for 4 yrs, no kids. In a weak moment, had an affair with a girl i knew before marriage. When i and my wife were not going along too well due to her parents behaviour towards our family. Now her parents from influential family have acquired print outs of my sms conversations, my phone records with that girl along with some photographs by hiring professional detectives( Is that even legal). Wife also leaking out all details to her family and they are blackmailing me to an extent that they will even get rid of the said girl by criminal means. What do i do ?
First decide what you want to do , with whom you want to live wife or girl friend, if You are not happy with your marriage life then ask for divorce & live your life. Apply for divorce on basis of cruelty from wife and her family and live separate till u get divorce.

As you are Hindu and your marriage is according to Hindu rites and rituals, you will be governed by Hindu Marriage Act. The matrimonial disputes are of Civil nature, so if your proofs clearly establishes that you have adulterous relationship with the said girl, your wife can get divorce on that ground. Implicating in criminal cases will be limited to IPC 498a, IPC 494 Domestic Violence and CrPC 125 (for maintenance). Here also, everything will be subject to strict proof.

As per Law and per Hindu marriage act ,they can't charge for any crime,worst they could do is to file a Divorce suit under Hindu marriage act .
