Firstly you must file a petition for divorce against your wife. Is your wife working or not? Do you have any children? After you file for divorce she can claim only for maintenance. You need not pay for any marriage expenses. Even if they claim any amount, the Court cannot ask you to pay the amount. Hello,

There is no specific provision in Indian law for return of marriage expenses. Even if your wife wants to claim it, she will have to prove that she has spent money and the same can be defended.

She can claim maintenance on the basis of her expense, her income and whether you have any children.

You may initiate divorce proceedings and file your supportive documents. Hope this clears up your doubts.

If you prove that your wife lives in adultery you need not pay for her maintenance. The permanent alimony is allowed not based on the marriage expenses. It is decided by the status of the parties concerned. It is now well settled that one fourth of the husband salary or income could be awarded as the maintenance. Your income, standard of living and expenses you need to spend on your family etc would be considered to arrive at a sum to be paid by you.

In Indian law, there is no provision for the reimbursement of wedding expenses. If the wife wishes to claim this money, she must prove that it was spent and can be defended.
