Engagement cancelled day before any action for money spent and insult

One guy came with family for marriage offer. Then the date was finalized for engagement. One day before the engagement date they cancelled everything. Can we take any action for the money spent and the insult that happened? Now the whole family is absconding.
Legally you can. Just go to a lawyer and he will do it for you. But I do not advise you to go in for litigation. This type of litigation has high opportunity cost. This means cost of litigation is more than profit gained out of it. I always advice clients to aviod litigation unless absolutely necessary.

Of course, you can file complaint against them for demanding dowry etc. They can be booked under relevant sections of IPC and Dowry Prohibition act. But before doing so u need to consult a lawyer who could guide or draft complaint on your behalf.
