For the query you posted,I would suggest the following:

The duration is cannot be specified per se, though it usually takes a couple of years for its disposal.
For the separation from your end, you need to initiate such proceedings accordingly and at the earliest before any adverse finding comes against you.

Normally in CAW cell a case can be kept for 6 months but after getting permission from higher officials they can kept it for more than 6 months. Now a days there are mediation centre in all CAW cell better you avail one. if there is chance to settle the matter- either your decide to live separately or to reconcile your differences that can be reduced in writing and that shall be binding on both parties, otherwise, if case is made out as per the complaint, the CAW cell registered FIR and proceeds further.

If you are forced to close the case. The remedy is to file a petition under 156(3) Criminal procedure code before area MM for direction to register FIR.
CAW cell cant keep the case for long however everywhere it is encouraged that metrimonial dispute is sestive one therefore all the forums ahould try to mediate and motivate the parties to settle. If no settlement arrived based upon the complaint the FiR is registered and now because of directions of Hon'ble supreme court of India in arnesh kumar's case the arrest in these
Matter is discouraged, unless the requirement mention therein fulfilled. Before registration of FIR CAW cell conducts enquiry. It should be done as expeditiously as possible depending upon the parties.

Hi,
There can be no time limit if the authorities are showing that the case can be solved within their jurisdiction. However, the case must be solved in 90 days. You may inform the authorities regarding lack of time with you.
