Does wife have any rights if she is not willing to give divorce?

I have a friend who is married and is now on the verge of getting separated.They stayed together for about a year,misunderstanding. Now the girl doesnt want to stay with him and is demanding divorce. But my friend doesnt want to give divorce. Is there any law that will force her to stay with him and help them sort out things together. They have undergone mediation and they have also suggested to get divorced. But she is demanding money and saying that she will put dowry and harrasement case on him if he doesnt give money. The case is very complicated. Pls help.
Arrive at a consensus offer a mutual divorce on condition that she will not file any criminal cases, nor demand excess money etc., this will solve many issues.
If your friend still wants to stick to " I will not let her go" stand then tell him to file a petition seeking restitution of his conjugal rights.
