Here the mediation centre is nothing but a family counselling centre. You can even file a petition before the Hon'ble District Legal Services Authority narrating your grievance and the authority will talk to you and your husband by giving counselling. Advantages in the sense if you wanted to live together then opt for this otherwise go to a p.s within your limits and file a 498-a case.

Dear Client,
After filing a petition for grant of divorce and after appearing opposite side, the court will direct both the parties to appear before mediation center to settle the amicably. Court will see if there are any chances of mediation. Mediation Center is a place, which is constituted near the family court where divorce petitions are filed and entertained. Mediation center will examine the parties to divorce and inquire into cause of divorce and settlement if any. After mediation parties come to conclusion of settlement they will mediate the matter and requesting the court to draft a compromise decree. Otherwise case will be proceeded with.

Hi
Mediation centers are located in all district courts and taluka courts.
Mediation process starts with an application and notices will be issued to other side.
fee will be not more than 50-/-
Mediation report is advantageous to the extent that parties either arrive at a compromise and a compromise report is filed in the court. The compromise report becomes the final court decree which cannot be challenged in supreme court.
If mediation efforts fail, then parties will be directed to pursue the case in civil court as per Civil procedure code.
