If she is subjected to physical and mental cruelty she should first of all inform the police station immediately about the incident . She can file an application for a decree divorce on the ground that she is treated with cruelty under section 13(1) (ia) of The Hindu Marriage Act, 1955. For further detailed opinion it is advised you should contact a good lawyer and act as per his guidence.
