Can daughter in law claim maintenance from father in law
04-Jun-2023 (In Divorce Law)
Daughter in law (widow) suiting father-in-law for maintnce. Has she any grounds to sue father-in-law and brother in law both of whom are poor for maintenance?
Dependents on the circumstances. She will have a right on the intestate property (not self acquired) of her husband, only on the death of the husband. However, so long as the husband is alive, she has no claim.

Hi
Legally Daughter in law can file a suit for maintenance against her husband if the husband has died or is not capable of paying the maintenance then she can file a maintenance case against the father in law. If they are poor for maintenance it is better not to go for maintenance as the legal costs for lawyers are quite high.
