Is Web scrapping for email id is legal or illegal all over the world?

06-Feb-2023 (In Cyber Crime Law)
I'm collecting email id from different websites across country using scrapping(coding). In their website mentioned content are copyrighted. I'm not copying content, collecting data(email id) from respective website. Is that illegal? I also read some forums says that, only creative content will be copyrightable and also in US "information" is not copy-rightable. Can anyone help me out?

Hi,You can get the data from websites via 'Screen scrapping' as long as the request is validated by the websites. It is upto the website developers to block scrapping on their sites. It is illegal for you to use scrapping when the content is protected or restricted to particular users. Your query need more discussion about the intention of collecting the data.

There is no law in India which makes web scrapping illegal. This is indeed done by many businesses these days for building up a clientele or may be for just a survey/ comparison etc. So if the website owners are ok with it, you don't have a problem. Another aspect of unethical web scrapping is what exactly you are doing with the data. As you must be aware that on the internet also all IPR protection persists, therefore it may land you up in a legal case. So beware of everything you are doing before you venture. Should you require any further clarification on the topic feel free to get in touch.
