Charging Import tax on a product already bought in India

I Have a Laptop which I bought a while ago (purchased in India) I went abroad to Italy last month and left my laptop there by accident and I got it mailed back to India , However the Customs Officers are asking me to pay Rs. 8000 as Import Tax, I produced the bill for the product but they said it is still an import and I have to pay this amount , what course of action must I take ?
While going out side the country it is required to fill the declaration that the particular laptop is being carried out( with details of the bill and other specifications). which would be of help for consideration.
