Whether putting screenshot of message on social website legal?

is taking screenshots of whatsapp texts from someone's cell phone without their knowledge and posting it public using one's own cellphone , in order to prove a person guilty a crime ?
Posting publically screenshots and images of someone else may result in defamation and the other party may file a case for defamation. You cannot post publically any pictures publically to prove the person guilty unless the person has been declared guilty by court.
