I was cheated for Rs. 35K by service provider What are my remedies ?

#UrgentHelp Hired a person through a reference for making our kitchen trolley, he estimated around 72K and asked for a cheque for 35K. Gave him the cheque, which he withdrew the next day (6/04/17) under someone's name having a similar surname. He came the next day with a carpenter and took measurements, gave a receipt, stating work will be finished in 10 -12 days. Also, made a trolley design and finalized wood ply designs. His phone wasn't reachable when tried 2 days later. Checked with the reference, he said that he left for someone's funeral to his native the day he came home for measurements. After a few days, could reach one of the numbers, he said that the work was over and the carpenter has already begun work on the covering and he would send the carpenter's number. After that, one of his number responds stating its invalid and the other number disconnects without ringing. Please help.
