It depends, if you have filed an FIR? Or an FIR has been filed against you.If you have filed it then you are entitled to get a copy of it free of cost at the time you make the FIR. But if the FIR is registered against you then you will get the copy of it once the Chargesheet is filed before the court. Police cannot miss the record of FIR and this is the reason that the complainant is given a copy of it.

If you are a complainant in a complaint, you are entitled for a free copy of FIR. Further, if you want other documents related to investigation and if investigation is completed, you can seek the same under RTI. This way you will get certified copy of the FIR.

Generally police is bound to give the copy of FIR immediately free of cost to the informant. If police is not giving it to you then you may approach to the judicial magistrate under whose jurisdiction the police station lies. You may also file an RTI application to get the record.
