Someone is repeatedly abusing me and giving me life threats through calls and messages. What can I do? Should I file an FIR?

In some cases, the police sorts out the matter without much legality, as they would most likely call the number you are being harassed from and threaten them with severe consequences if they do not stop. However, if that fails they would start a general diary to proceed with investigation.
