How to expedite the police investigation procedure ?

Halo Sir, I lost my dad in 28th September 2016. Postmortem was done but still we are waiting for his forensic report. As its already 4 months and no information given to us by Police. We asked Police to tell the RC number for forensic report,but they denied saying that its confidential and cant be shared.. Kindly help me out...we are really struggling to know about fact.
The most effective legal remedy would be to file a petition in the High Court in the exercise of its extra ordinary inherent power and seek a command for fair investigation. The HC may even hand over the probe to another investigating agency like CBI if it emerges that the investigation conducted so far has been lose and weak.
