The police of a particular area has its jurisdiction marked and their authority does not extend beyond the jurisdiction of that area. However if a crime is reported and alleged to have been committed in the area over which it has jurisdiction then it has the power to take investigation beyond the are of jurisdiction but with the help of local police having jurisdiction over the area to be searched.

yes, under section 166 crpc police can conduct search in beyond their jurisdictional limit, and recover property, but the complaint must be given their, where the property has stolen. if you are in continuous travelling and you dont know where your property has stolen, then all the states or cities have the jurisdiction to register your complaint.
