1. Can answers given during cross examination amount to perjury, if they are false absolutely and can be proved? 2. is there any time limit in filing a defamation case from the date of such defamation?

Yea answer given by the witness are under aoth even during cross examination and superme court had calrified the situation that cross is evidence and come under section 193 of IPC ,

1.if Answers given during cross examination are intentionally false ( mensrea) then it will amount to perjury. and punishable under section 193. IPC.
2. Limitation for filling defamation cases are 12 months and court can extend it to 3 yes in reasonable circumstances.

Second 340 application can be filed anytime next the content of the same can be denied...the court is supposed to maintain separate file for same and it will depend upon the argument...so then nly perjury can lead to punishment....
